Join us for our Art and the Human Brain series: Neuroscience & the Visual Arts. Our speaker, Juan (Zeno) Sanchez-Ramos, Ph.D, MD. Professor Emeritus of Neurology, University of South Florida, Tampa, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 12:00pm lunch/1:00pm presentation. A Neurologist’s personal perspective on the relationship between Art and Science will be presented, starting with the early phase of life as an artist and his transformation into a physician-scientist. From the cave painter up through current time, artists have to some degree also been chemists or technologists. In fact, until the last few hundred years, art and science were closely allied. Popular opinion views art and an art career as a very separate activity from the pursuit of science, especially at professional levels of accomplishment. The counterpoint to this view will be emphasized and exemplified by showing and discussing a series of art works from each phase of the Neurologist’s development as a physician-scientist.
